When I installed from a USB drive on my Dell Mini 9 and got the I/O error I had no indication that the installer was finished. I'm investigating if the problem is to do with the cd drive's firmware. I'm sure a Google search will lead you to some step by step tutorial. I built this computer one month ago to make the switch from Windows to Ubuntu, but no luck so far.
