You will need to put a new OS on the new HD. It's unlikely with a laptop that the drive connection is loose, but you can try removing the drive and putting it back in. In any case, if none of my suggestions worked for you, then your hard drive has failed and must be replaced! If you don't care about the data that's on that drive, replace as per above, reinstall Windows and you'll be good to go. Last case senario for recovering data. hOW? Sometimes I get stuck in a reboot loop, sometimes it wants to run Repair, sometimes it wants me to choose safe mode/no safe mode. So, I have gone ahead and ordered the recovery CD from IBM.
Did you remember to use a flash drive, or did you try to use a CD or DVD disc?? If you droped the laptop then this is probably the case.
