I was going to run it from Recovery Console but it's most likely going to take many many hours to complete (if it even does) so I want to make sure I already backed up all my stuff and i have a Recovery Disc to reinstall windows so I'm not in any real danger of losing files. The SATA controller cards are not very expensive, usually around $20-$30I wouldnt take any chances with a hard drive that fails diagnostics unless the system is used for unimportant purposes. And also, how accurate is the SMART status on a hard drive since there are bad blocks on it and yet the status is OK? BTW I think I would rather just get an IDE drive if it will avoid any problems. before the hard drive just was failing completly. When the surface is damaged, particles are usually flecked off that drag the surface under the heads, eating away at the good parts, causing data loss and destruction throughout the drive. Personally, I think the machine needs a R/W Wipe, Format and a good Clean Install. Any suggestions appreciated.
